Cloud Library, Taiwan, 2013

The Cloud Library sits within the masterplan for the Hsinchu Stone Village designed by Mole in collaboration with Gianni Botsford Architects and Todd Longstaffe-Gowan Landscape Architect. The Taiwanese clients wished for a centrepiece for the development that would serve as a symbol within the entrance square, and a counterpoint to the surrounding apartments. Modelled on the Chinese lantern, the building will be pale and reflective during the day, with fritted glass panels forming a rainscreen.  At night the red of the interior will glow through the glass. The cafe floor overlooks the square, and together with the top-lit reading room it will form the social hub of the development.
